BUILDING eBIKES IN THE USA
American consumers face tough challenges when they want to “Buy American.” First, you have to find an American-made alternative — then you have to be able to afford it. Globalization has seen a lot of manufacturing leave the country, with only higher-priced specialists and artisans staying afloat.
This means that, since the 1990s, Americans are mostly riding bikes made overseas. Within a single generation, the US went from world leader to just another buyer. We think that’s terrible for consumers, enthusiasts, and, most importantly, the communities across America that used to build things.
A REVOLUTION (AND RESTORATION) IN PROGRESS
If building in America was just about the will to do it, more would. But building competitive products that deliver on quality and value isn’t just about deciding where to build. Just like with our vision of the RIDE bike, you have to think bigger. As we build, we’re driven by a few critical questions.
- What can we build/assemble in America today?
- How can we expand that scope over time?
- Where can we find communities with manufacturing talent and expertise?
- When do we need to work with communities and government partners to enable our efforts?
The goal is simple: do everything we can to build the very best ebikes in America. This isn’t just about products, but partners, communities, and ecosystems
